Hyundai CD Boombox @ RM89

Yes, it’s less than half price with free delivery peninsular wide!  Go grab one quick from: http://www.streetdeal.my/home/refer/34918/1330489980

Dong Cha, Mahkota Cheras

2 drinks plus 2 jumbo wagashi (hot cakes with filling) for a mere RM10.90!!

IMAG0610 Our drinks: Twin Deluxe Milk Tea and Honeydew Milk with Pearl

You’d be amazed with the amount of sugar (4 large scoopfuls!) and colouring added to these drinks.   They were thirst quenchers but there was a tad too many pearls in the drinks.

IMAG0613

Matcha Red Bean with Cream

IMAG0614  Belgium Chocolate with Cream

I had never heard of Jumbo Wagashi until this deal came by and was game to give it a go.  It turned out to be a cross between a pancake and cake with filling in the middle.  This palm-size concoction drew crowds during the school holiday and provides the differentiating factor between Dong Cha and other bubble tea outlets.

DRB F&B Trading, Kuchai Lama

IMAG0606Keep a look out for the signage which is completely in Mandarin.  The restaurant faces the evening sun and hence, no diner in their right mind turns up before sunset.

IMAG0600Hotplate, steamboat (tom yam, chicken broth)

The offer of steamboat at half price was a joke.  As we seated for our meal, we were asked if we wanted to add the hotplate and drinks at an additional RM5.90 per adult.  Hence, bringing the bill to almost RM20 per head.

The price for all-you-can-eat didn’t seem to big but the disappointing bit was the variety offered.  The menu was highly limited and most were frozen foods.

IMAG0603 Steamboat goodies

IMAG0602

Variety of noodles and vegetables available

IMAG0604

Meats and coldcuts

 IMAG0605

Drinks station (soya bean, sugarcane, orange cordial, chinese tea)

Anyway, if you are in for fuss-free steamboat in a non-crowded diner, this is the ideal place.  Plus point is that kids eat all they want for RM9.50 per pax.

Poyo, Publika

For want of a better place to visit, we trekked the length of Publika’s mall in Solaris Dutamas to venture a new food venue.  Lo and behold, we stumbled upon Poyo (a Malay colloquial for doing things in their own way).  Indeed, the chef, partner and waiter extraordinaire, BA, did things his way.

IMAG0572

After taking our order, he whisked into the kitchen to prepare a splendid array of local and fusion delights for us.

IMAG0567Sarawak laksa – Top of our list!!! The best we’ve EVER had!  Super creamy with ample santan and a secret blend of spices.  Even better than the one at Alexis if we do say so ourselves :P

IMAG0568

Nasi ulam – a tad dry but a good mix of fresh and fried condiments.

IMAG0575

Salsa lempeng – wah!  This was a treat! The tomatoes were super fresh and mildly laced with herbs and onions. Can’t wait to go back to try more variations of this.

IMAG0570

Orange Fizz  and Teh Tarik.  The orange is their own concoction of fresh juice shaken with something tangy to make it a really refreshing drink! The teh tarik is your everyday mamak stall variety but slightly more concentrated.

IMAG0574

Keropok – something BA let us try.  Crispy and delicious – these are also on sale for take-away in separate jars at the restaurant

This place opens from 8am onwards to serve breakfast and goes right past dinner time until 10pm.  Drop by if you are in the vicinity.  You won’t be disappointed.

Little Star Cafe / Xiao Fei Xiang, Rawang / Serdang

This restaurant is, as expected Star themed :) The food and prices are very reasonable – ranging from RM5.90 for fried rice to RM12.90 for chicken chop while drinks are RM2.90 to RM5.90.

IMAG0557 Sweet and sour meat rice (very tasty sans MSG!)

IMAG0556

From left to right: Iced Tea and Teh c kosong.  A refreshing and frothy experience.

IMAG0554

Yong chow fried rice – a single serving is enough for 2 pax!

IMAG0559

Seafood yee mee – just enough sauce to whet the appetite and dish.  Noodles stay slightly crisp.

IMAG0561

Chicken chop in cream sauce with curry leaves – this is a house specialty and tasted mildly tangy and sweet.  A must-try!

The restaurant also boasts a weekday lunch time which includes a drink in addition to its main meal hence, it is usually packed from noon to 3pm.

Free wifi and internet facility (they have a computer available for use by patrons) as well as games (chess, some board games etc) for the children.

A pleasant place worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

Restoran Hai Thian, Seri Kembangan

This very popular restaurant serves both ala carte and set meals to order.  For a group of 10 pax, you can opt for an 8-course Chinese set meal ranging from RM288 to RM788.

IMAG0540 Fish Maw in thick soup (This dish goes down well with vinegar)

IMAG0542

Three hot season (the breaded fish paste was crunchy and sweet while the fried vegetables were absolutely delicious)

IMAG0543

Soya sauce steamed garoupa (a simple dish but the ample amount of onions and seasoning surrounding the fish gave the dish its oomph)

IMAG0548

Ginger and honey sauce pork ribs (Ahhhh…I can still taste the lovely fillet meat.  Yes, most pieces were fillet which meant that you’d be eating something not far off from large pieces of char siew. This tangy and sweet dish is one of our favourites)

IMAG0549

Pumpkin with salted egg (At first, this unassuming dish was difficult to decipher but the combination of the sweet pumpkin, coated with salted egg was an instant hit at our table)

IMAG0550

Fried lotus root with macadamia nuts (This crunchy delight is not elderly friendly but otherwise a well-cooked and tasty dish)

IMAG0552

Yong Chow Fried Rice (an all-time favourite)

Restoran Yoon Ping Noodle House, Seri Kembangan

2 meals + 2 drinks + 1 snack at half price!  All for just RM12.30…

IMAG0525 Fried Braised Pork Wan Tan Mee – we had two portions of these.  The braised pork was succulent but not too sweet.  The noodles were the average mass produced fair.  Rather unusual for a noodle house!

IMAG0529

Hakka Noodles + Curry Chicken – Tasty and simple.

IMAG0534

Hakka Noodles + Fried Braised Pork – Again braised pork was tender and delicious.  Noodles and sauce complimented the meal.

IMAG0535

12 pcs small slices toast bread + curry potatoes – this was the tummy filler and was way too much after a noodle filled main course!

IMAG0530

Ice Lemon Tea – refreshing on a hot day although it might be best to ask the waiter to go easy on the sugar!

The restaurant was located in Taman Puncak Jalil – a mere 10 minutes from the Bukit Jalil highway or 15 minutes from Taman Equine.  The almost 2-year-old restaurant is your friendly neighbourhood noodle house and apparently, this is the third time the promotion is being held.  Definitely worth a visit if you are in the vicinity.

Never buy via AirAsia RedTix

10 reasons why you should never ever purchase anything via AirAsia RedTix unless you what the hassle of the following:

1. They take your money upfront but don’t offer confirmation nor tickets.

2. You follow-up by email/phone only to get “payment is in float” or “transaction unsuccessful”.

3. You call the bank and bank confirms payment has been made to merchant and NO REFUNDS/CANCELLATIONS can be made. (ie. you still have to pay the bank). You inform AirAsia RedTix in writing of the bank’s feedback and they DO NOT RESPOND!

4.  You call AirAsia RedTix to follow-up but your mobile number has been blacklisted!!! You know this because you try using another phone line and get an immediate response!!!

5. You can’t believe that your phone line can be blacklisted so you try using the second phone line and voila!   Same thing happens…you guessed it, can’t get through to AirAsia RedTix HOTLINE!!!!

6.You email Customer Service (because that’s what their phone-in service says you should do when you initially got through to them) but you get absolutely NO RESPONSE on subsequent emails!  (MORE BLACKLISTING??)

7.  You email again and get very frustrated because you can’t get through phone-in service and are not getting an email response either.

8.  You start to panic because the bank says you have to pay but pay for WHAT?? You received nothing!  Hence, you have no choice but to threaten legal action (THIS IS AFTER ALL YOUR RIGHT IF YOU HAVEN”T RECEIVED GOODS OR SERVICES WHICH HAVE BEEN PAID FOR).

9. You copy the organiser of the event on your final email before having to proceed with legal action….and guess what…

10. AirAsia RedTix immediately delivers ticket within 24 hours!
