Jing Thai, Seri Kembangan

RM20 vouchers for RM10.  From online reviews, the food seemed good and reasonably priced. Boy, was I in for a surprise.

Entrance to the eatery

P2251733

Just right after the entrance there is a bridge.  Don’t let the pebbled path fool you.  You’ll need to watch you step - the place is littered with dog poo!

P2251739

View from main entrance to parking area – the restaurant is surrounded by a light industrial area and some heavy machinery.  The gravel path and dog poop is all around.

The menu

Some of the dishes (and prices)

P2251741

Otak-otak – I don’t know how this can be considered authentic.  This dish was spongy and felt as though it was reheated straight from the freezer.  If there was fish, I didn’t taste it.  The ‘rempah’ was bland.

P2251744

Mango chicken – fried and dry.

P2251750

Fish cake – just doused with mayonaise.  This dish was almost RM20!

P2251746

Shrimp fried rice – no other than the usual yong chow fried rice. Again, I question authenticity of this ‘Thai’ restaurant.

 Salted Egg with Squid

Salted egg with Squid – this calamari was rather tasty and crispy.  There wasn’t much salted egg in the dish but sufficient for the dish.

IMAG0651

Green curry chicken – just the average run of the mill Thai green curry.

IMAG0645

Hong Kong Kailan with Salted Fish – nothing out of the ordinary here.

Tomyam Nam Sai Soup

Tomyam Nam Sai Soup – this clear, simple soup is deceptive as there really is quite a kick to this dish.  Very tasty and spicy!

Diners are allowed to use a voucher per person but this does not extend to children (aren’t they diners too?  Sheesh!)

This mosquito infested restaurant was busy but not crowded on the Saturday evening.  Tucked away in the middle of some industrial site, you’d almost miss this outlet if not for the need to utilise the vouchers.

Definitely not suitable for a family outing and food-wise, it is no better than our regular tai-chow down the road.  No idea where the Thai cuisine comes into play.  Perhaps it was the Thai green curry in the menu which makes it an authentic Thai restaurant??!!

Pricing-wise, this place is a rip-off.  Each dish is between RM15-RM20++.  Mind you, this is a non-air conditioned outlet with half-baked Thai cuisine.

Enough said, you get the drift.

Oloiya, The Gardens

The discount is back!!  Get 2 dried meat buns for RM5.80. Go grab vouchers via: http://www.everyday.com.my/coupons/kl/leetc.ec?5030

My review in December 2011:

This brought back memories of yesteryear. Couldn’t resist the Oloiya Dried Meat Bun ((Dried Meat + Chicken Floss + Vegetables) for RM2.90 (originally RM4.90).  The deal, made available by WeBuy, was definitely a trip down memory lane.

IMAG0362

Oloiya dried meat bun – soft white bread grilled with margarine and served with dried meat (bak kua), meat floss (bak hu) and cucumber.  I opted for tomato ketchup but you can also choose chili sauce or mayonaise.

Mee Jawa

This restaurant seems to be sprouting everywhere and I just couldn’t resist a sampling!  What to order, what to order?   I settled for their signature dish, naturally.

IMAG0598 Mee Jawa

I must say, that this is the WORST noodle meal I’ve ever had!  The yellow noodle was covered with gravy made of pure starch with sugar!  There was no flavour to this dish and I began to wonder where it came from!  (yes, the imagination did run wild at this stage – it was after all, that bad!)

Ah, perhaps the squid thrown in at the side might be something to savour…NOT!!! This sotong rendang was salty and tasted as though it was reheated and made days ago!  I couldn’t believe that a signature dish could be this bad.  Worst, was the almost withered lettuce sprinkled on top of the noodle!!

Aisay man.  What a total disappointment.  After paying almost RM10 for this.  I was left totally disheartened. Particularly since Mee Jawa is one of my favourite dishes…how could they have made it go oh so wrong???!!

With a dish like this, this chain might as well close down tomorrow.  It certainly won’t be missed.

IMAG0599 Syrup limau

Ok-lar.  I tried to gulp down what I could with my order of syrup limau (lime syrup).  Aiyoh, this was even worst!    Way tooooooooooo sweet with unidentified additives in this drink!

Enough said.  Damage done (yes almost RM13 poorer) and still hungry for a decent meal!  What a day.

Fattycrab.com, Taman Seputeh
